Bacon, the troubled pig!

Hello dear readers and friends!*grin*

Everyone thinks that a farm is not complete unless you have pigs, right? well.. NO!
Let me explain:

8 years ago, for some "unknown" reason my DH came to me and said " Hey baby lets get some baby pigs?"
I was so surprised that he would ask that, but then again, He ( my DH ) is from Miami and "I" am the one to turn him into a farmer....*grin*
I did grow up on a farm and we did have pigs. It was not easy for my parents and the smell... goodness... it was awful!*grin*
Yes, yes, I know ... one CAN raise clean pigs-but I've never seen one!;0

Any now... this is what happened;

My husband 's grandmother (she is now with the Lord) lived in NJ, and eight years ago we thought it was a good idea to do a car trip to visit her.

Mark had bought 6 piglets and the children named them as they thought they should- Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Bacon, Porkchops, and Ham... I know that may sound weird, but when children ages 4, 5 , 6 and so comes up with such names, we laugh and let it be. The children absolutely loved taking left overs to the pigs for their meals, and we soon found out that our piglets did NOT care for peas and beans......*grin*

They were adorable!!!!

About six weeks after we purchased our piglets, we left for our trip.

I am smiling as my mind goes back to that day... yes ...the day that we returned from the trip!:O

Well... our trip took about a week .We hired someone to feed the animals while we were gone.

As we were arriving and driving through the drive way , at our first pasture we saw the cattle running very strangely .
We stopped the van and ran to see what was going on. Apparently the pigs did not want to wait for us and I have a feeling that the young man did not feed them THAT day....
The pigs dug holes around the pen and escaped!!!

I had never seen mad cows before this time... oh boy! Cows HATE pigs, I can testify to that! The cows were acting so crazily , running trying to step on the pigs. I panicked!

Immediately I was delegating everyone in what to do. The children were chasing the pigs and as one would grab one , it would slip out of their hands and all would start all over again.
I was dying laughing holding my youngest , at the time only 2 , because he too seemed to want to run and take part of the fun.

I kept yelling at my husband " grab the pig" but it did not look right... it was hilarious.

After about 3 hours of chasing, the children and my husband were exhausted and so dirty , I could not tell the difference between them and the pigs...hehe and of course , they smelled terrible.....:)

We realized that day that we would have to build new pens which had deeper foundations, and I also learned that day while farmers add rings to pigs nose... so they can't dig!

We did not keep the pigs for too long, as the smell would come to my kitchen door every time we opened the door... but I do have some fond memories- and the most important to me , was the memories the "we" made as a family!

Here is my pig.... he is just like Bacon... well... I was tempted to name him but collectors may not understand why as i did not write about it on my listing....;)
He is a charming pig , and in his eyes you can see he has some interesting stories to share.

Good night... sweet dreams!*grin*

Hens!! AND Hershey's progress

Hello !!!*grin*
I want to talk about chickens today but I thought that would be nice to share my progress with Hershey. when I made Pearl, I learned that it was very difficult to sculpt one part and continue sculpting by adding clay and smoothing, when I kept touching a side where was already done. I kept going back and smoothing and shaping but this allows the sculpture to change. One way that I have done in the past is pre-baking parts but I truly don't like that. It is not the same to me.I like to see the entire sculpture before I bake it so I can twit if i need to, but for smaller animals I am fine baking the head first.
Soo... I went "hunting' online for a stand... a horse stand would be great .Didn't fine any. I found that the majority of artists that sculpts prototype horses uses one . These artists are amazing. I learned a LOT as I did my research. I looked on you tube too . If you are planing to make horses, I tell you... go to you tube and visits sites where professional artist shares pictures and you will learn a lot. Many will share steps, armature formation and such but none had the info that I need for the stand.

One other thing is that my work is in 1:12 . These artists that I mentioned makes 1:16 scale horses in which are a LOT bigger so their stands would not work for Linkme.

I had to make one.

I used metal and welded my parts together. I did not want to use wood because I want to take the stand to the oven. Wood tends to warp with heat.
The stand I made is adjustable . I think I can make just about any large dollhouse animal with my new stand. ohhh ...I love it!*grin*

One thing I may add later is a lazysusan . Next time I make a horse , I will show you progress pictures and how using the stand makes it much easier for my work .*grin*

I am showing you my Hershey in clay prior baking. As I said , I choose to work with her totally in raw clay and I think the final results will show a much better animals sculpt. The reason is that I can smooth her completely before I finally bake her.
One may ask about her belly clay ...well... she has a aluminum armature and believe me or not a 17gauge wire with it. Cow legs are thin compare to the body weight so I want to make sure that her support was strong enough and adding the thicker wire help to do the job.

Chickens!!!

You all know by now that I can't sit still,*grin*, and I can not work on one project only. I truly like to take breaks between sculpting and finishing a project.Opposite of one could think, I give my all in all to each project but the way I work best is if I let each project to "rest' for a little while. This makes me excited when I finally get back to work on.

I have made few chickens this past month... one of my fav is a pepper barred rock hen. I will show you more of that breed later on. I want to make different breeds and different colors most definitely challenges me. I am thankful for all my years as hand-spinner that I learned to dye my fibers... it comes in handy now.*grin*
Anyhow.... I have this plump white spotted chicken available on my ebay if you are interested on her, follow the link on the upper left tab!
wishing you a lovely and blessed day!
It is so beautiful here in Peachland!!Smiles~

Dog and girls! ;)

Hello!!!*grin*

Wow!!!I can hardly believe that I went to the show and came home already. It was so fast and so fun!!!

I am not sure why but I thought the driving distance was about 6 hours but to my surprise was only 4. since the show finished at 4:00pm yesterday, My son and I decided to have a nice dinner and head home.

No matter where i go ... it is true to me that there is NO place like home!!!*grin*

You all know that this was my first show. It was a small show but nevertheless a limited with guests. there was a lot of people there and boy how exciting it was. I honestly did not expect to get so much attention and sell so many minis. truly a blessing and I am hooked now!

I have to make some serious decisions now... it is very comfortable for me to stay home and sell online but the show was an experience that I did not expected.
I meet some wonderful artisans and dealers too, what a world!!!loved it!*grin*

I am glad to be home with my family and farm animals. i have already listed few new minis on my ebay and i am anxious to get back to my studio tomorrow morning!
Wishing you a lovely evening where ever your are....*grin*
