Appaloosa Horse

"Spotlight"

Hello !*grin*

Few posts ago, I shown you a white horse I made and its process. If you missed it , please go down and look in my "older posts".
Right after I sculpted Pearl, my white horse, I sculpted Spotlight. I had an initial idea of making a set of horses as I ordered a lovely cart but the horses had a life its own and how I felt about each one became more and more different than the initial idea I had.
Because these horses are hand sculpted and the hand work varies , the white horse turned up as a young White Sabino horse and the second one like an appaloosa or painted horse.

That meant - I needed to paint the horse, sigh!

I used to do airbrushing painting but the nervous got on me in thinking of using the airbrush again. One truly needs experience to control the speed and flow ... it is not easy BUT the results are second to none, in my opinion.

It does take time to do layers and wee spots . I practice and practice to finally feel comfortable enough to transform a simple flocked white horse in a appaloosa and ...I like it!*grin*

I hope my geese can give you an idea of Spotlight size.... He is very detailed and I am afraid pictures are not showing all of it. He is not perfect but a very lovely horse!*grin*
You can see here why I want a team horses ... I have this thing for all horses accessories...

Harness were handmade from leather and it is very detailed. it is removable too.
A nice top view of the horse....

Here is a super enlarged picture of the Spotlight's eyes. You can see that the colors of his eyes are not one but many . When I create a lens is over a very detailed painted work. The clay also allow me to let the oil paints to soak up and heat set to create deep tones.
If you go to my other post you will see a picture of this horse and if you look closely you will see that his clay was blended but not totally. I used flesh and transparent colors clay and when I blend I did not mixed completely so when I painted the horse was in a light wash... I want to have the flocking... made from fine ,almost cut to a powder , wool cuts. If you look closely you will see the is almost as you could see the pink under the skin.... white horses are like that.;-)
I want to show how he looked before I started the air brushing. Also the nice thing about it is that the colors are permanent and will never fade.

This is the airbrush ...
then some progress ...

Thank you so much for your visit ! I also truly appreciate your notes and comments!grin!
Spotlight is available on my ebay, if you are interested on bidding or viewing my auction, please click on the tab on the upper left.
