Roombox is finally finished!

After seven long months of work, I finally finished my first roombox. This room was entirely handmade and the only store bought items were the fire place ( ourtter frame/mantel) , the piece over the mantel and the ceiling trim. Everything else was carefully designed to have an unique look , making this room totally one of a kind! *grin*
I also should add that for the chandelier, I purchase a very plain piece and it was originally brass color.... I added the crystals after I leaf gold the entire piece.

The windows are missing my pictures that I will be printing soon. I found an artist in UK that does fantastic curtains and I order a set. I have lots to do here as far as adding furniture and my touch ups. I am looking forward to this stage.... it is my favorite!

I am looking for a nursery roombox, if any of you makes it ,please contact me. It will be a while before I start a long project such is this!*grin*

Wip Room

I thought to update you my lovely readers, grin, about my slow progress for room. Below you can see that the sconces are now done and ready to be inserted on the wall.

A close up of the floors already stained and sealed. They will be send next and final matte will be applied.

The fire logs are real wood that have been burned with a small torch. The holder is real metal that was flatten and weld in. Its weight quite a bit giving a feeling of the real stuff...*grin*

If you would like to see the prior post on this room please click here and here.

Fireplace....

The fireplace is finally finished after several months. I get so paranoid about the details ...
the handmade bricks *needed* to be painted to have a depth effect. I want this room top be beautiful and unique but I also want to look real. Real fireplace has a dust left from the fire... mine has it too!*grin*

Below is a close up of the bricks.... I am a happy girl today!*grin*

I am about to stain the floors , as soon I have the chance but because the only thing I have not made yet was the wall sconces , I decided to go ahead and get started..... here is the beginning... I twisted the copper wire to create the *body* and welded for a base. The wood in the back has a groove and I will add apoxie to set the light bulb.... the wood will be cut and used to look like a candle.

Roombox progress

I have been working on my first roombox for almost 5 months now. Here you can see my previous progress post. I am getting closer and closer now. The picture below is a snap of how the room is right now. The back wall is ready for painting. I had to add a backing behind the window because the widows are so delicate that it must have been broken about a dozen times before I finally figured that I needed to add a temporary protection, sigh, but the problem was solved that way.

The floor is a solid wood, not from a kit, but a wood that was individually grooved to create a scale floor. What you see is just the a darken colors stain that was applied so when I apply the final stain all will be blend but it will also create a *warm* finish, hopefully very natural and realistic.*grin*

I want to show some of the details. I use a regular router to create the scale. I am not very familiar with the English terms ... I hope you understand what I am saying by looking at the pictures.

This room was done entirely on my shop using the materials and tools that we have . Next on the list is to satin the floors , fill any gaps on the side walls ,then paint .

I have made a mold for my crown molds ... I will show it later....

I want the entire room to match so the *cuts* were also important. The same bit was used for all the wood work.
For the next picture I added a second trim to the floor molding, I haven't glue yet.

Below is a close up of the window. I am pleased with the details. the wood trims has been added and any minuscule gap has been filled. I think is is ready for the final paint!YES!*smiles*

A close up at the router ... I want to show you that with one bit can be used to create many cuts and curves. If you look carefully the next 3 pictures you can have an idea of what I am trying to say...

This is the router.... it is removeable from the table in which can be used for regular work . I am not expert on this and I am learning how to use it. It is pretty simple and amazinly fast too.

Made in USA... good stuff!*grin*

Roombox progress pictures

It has been about 3 months since I started working on my first roombox. The wall you see here is my main wall.Everything was handmade , even the windows. I did not use the store bought ones. The wood borders were done with a jig bit and all the pieces are ready to be attach and to be paint.
The space you see on the bottom is for the fire place. Below I am telling you my plans!*grin*

When I go to bed at night ... let me fix this .... when I FINALLY go to bed ,*grin* , I still think about things and most of my ideas comes from this time on. On the right you see an old frame from an antique container that I used to have. I used the flowers from that piece to create my pulleys for the curtains. The white piece is the plaster negative mold and the other one is my positive mold. The one the back you can see my pulleys.I used brass rods and the flowers were made from liquid fiber glass ( love that stuff!). Then gold leaf was applied and sealed. There are 2 sizes , the larger are for the top and the smaller for the sides.

Number 1 i am showing you a brick wall from a miniature train set. Number 2 is my negative mold made from fiberglass. Number three is my fireplace. I have only used shellac as based coat... still have to paint and detail . I want my fire place to look real and this molding process took about 10 days of work because I was not happy with the original train set .

To make the wood frames one need tools. I am blessed to have just the right thing.

This is the top of my room. The silver you see is a foil used to reflect light. Although my room will be electric I still wanted the light to reflect the windows because my main wall has a 4inches space to allow depth and reality. Oh , when I have all set you will understand!*grin*
